Around the Yakima Fruit Market 7/12/08-7/18/08

It had been less than 48 hours since I'd visited the Yakima Fruit Market, and I had about 30 seconds yesterday to take pictures for this week's Around the Market post before picking up the kids.

The changes over the past 2 days are drastic.

For example, the first I've seen of Yakima, Washington corn!

Green beefsteak tomatoes - way cool.  Definitely haven't seen these yet this year.

Dale hates apricots, so I was surprised when he said he wanted to buy a box.  "I don't hate these ones, they're sooo good."  He also said that, for the quality and price, right now could be the best shipment of the year.  Did you hear what I just said?

They are tempting... unfortunately a little bit too tempting for some.  Non-Paying Apricot Grazers, you are being watched.  I'm told that more money is lost from people helping themselves to apricots than any other produce in the market.  YFM is a family business, so let's try and not nickle and dime them to death, okay?

Otherwise you will fall into the same category as the Serial Pot Dropper-Offer.  More on that Monday... apparently I've hit on a hot topic at the fruit market. :)

In addition to apricot jam, we're doing raspberry tonight as well.  I'll show you the sign since yesterday I showed you the berries.  They're just coming in to season, but I see no need to wait - the berries are very good right now.

Between the two of us, Dale and I have killed at least 50 basil plants in the course of our marriage.  I'm being modest.

The pickling dill means mid-summer to me.  Technically it's not mid-summer yet, but since our Seattle summer starts on July 4th and ends the day after Labor Day, we're almost there.

There's more for today, but I worry about photo overload.  Here's a slideshow with some more images I don't want to keep a secret.

Orange Flesh melon, a watermelon sign mentioning Viagra, local broccoli, and a sign about bunnies and eyeglasses.  Click the thumbnails to view.... and again, I'd like some feedback on if you like the slideshow thing or not.

**Email and Feed Subscribers, clicking on the title of the post will bring you to the site.  Then you can see the slideshow, too.

It's FRIDAY!!!!!! Have a great weekend.
